Tochahah/The Warning

Lev. 26, Deut. 28

In making His covenant with the people of Israel, the Lord warned about the consequences of breaking the covenant, and the rewards of obeying it.
If Israel would obey the laws that God commands, and walk in His ways, He will bless the nation in all things. "The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity - in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground - in the land He swore to your forefathers to give you." (Deut. 28:11)
However, if Israel will not obey His commands and so violate His covenant, God will punish the nation in all things. Fields, crops, and vineyards will not produce, disease and disaster will come. They will be scattered among the nations. "But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers...I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land." (Lev. 26: 40-42)
